Why not join our 2,500 members, share information, tips and advice with the best vegetable growers in the country - Join the National Vegetable Society Here 50+ Years of Growing Vegetables!The society was founded in 1960 and celebrated 50 years and still growing strong in 2010. Our strength is in the membership and members belong to regional branches. There are five of these regional branches and associated to these are the District Associations which serve local areas. Usually the District Associations (we call them DAs for short!) meet regularly and arrange talks, trips etc for the members For details of local DA's and branches go to About the NVS Growing & Showing VegetablesThere's a wealth of knowledge in the society and our members have written many articles on vegetable growing which are published in the quarterly magazine that is sent out to members. We've got many of these articles of interest to gardeners and not just vegetable growers although we do concentrate on growing superb vegetables, on the site here: Vegetable Growing Articles As well as the advice and help the society offers to novice vegetable growers, we also train and examine horticultural judges for shows and maintain a list of horticultural lecturers. National Championships & ShowsEach year the society holds championships where the best vegetable growers in the land compete for the coveted red winner's card and prizes. This competition is hosted by a different banch each year. The 2011 championships and AGM were hosted by the Welsh branch at the Royal Pavilion Llangollen, Denbighshire over the August bank holiday Sat 27th.August to Monday 29th August. The vegetable championship results for 2011 can be found here the AGM resulted in some changes to the members of the National Executive Committee and awards were made to members. Details of the 2011 AGM For 2010, our 50th anniversary year, they were hosted by the Scottish Branch in Dundee. More on the NVS National Championships and AGM 2010 The 2009 NVS championships were held at Dorchester in the Dorset County show in 2009. Dorset County Show is one of the premier agricultural and horticultural events in the region.
