Geoff currently serves as Secretary for both the NVS Northern Branch and the North Yorkshire and South Durham District Association. Before retiring, he spent 42 years in the chemical industry with ICI and Johnson Matthey, working in Production and Safety Management.

A keen gardener for more than 50 years, Geoff has always been intrigued by the contrast between the rigorous safety standards of the chemical industry and the more relaxed approach often seen with chemicals in the garden. His interest in insects began when legislative changes following the UK’s entry into the then “Common Market” started to restrict the range of pesticides available to both amateur gardeners and professional growers. This shift prompted him to question the need for chemical use in his own garden and inspired a deeper exploration into the world of insects, learning how to manage pests effectively without unnecessary reliance on chemicals.

Geoff’s talk will help you identify both the pests and the beneficial insects in your garden, and show you how to manage them effectively.
