Ian Simpson

Scottish Branch  Trustee Rep

Ian has been a member of the NVS since the early 80's and became a Scottish Branch committee member in 2011.  He likes  growing veg for exhibition as  well as for the kitchen and gives talks up and down the country.

John Martin

Scottish Branch  Trustee Rep and Scottish Branch Chair 

John  ( Hoss) Martin became Scottish Branch Chair and Trustee Rep in March 2026. John has been a member of the NVS since 2011  and was a founder member of the North of Scotland DA since 2013  and is their Current Chair.   John also became a Scottish Branch Committee member in 2018.

A keen veg grower and shower,  he works hard to showcase all that is good about veg growing in the North of Scotland and shares his knowledge with gardening groups and schools alike.  John's working background is in Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture.

Adrian Read

Northern Branch Trustee Rep and Northern Branch Chair 

Adrian has been a member of the NVS for over 20 years and became an NVS judge in 1998.  Adrian is currently the Chair of the NVS's  North Yorkshire & South Durham District Association and also took over as Chair of the Northern Branch in 2019.

Mick Shipley

Northern Branch Trustee Rep

Mick has been an NVS members for 18 years  and a North East Derbyshire D.A. member since 2008. He is their Show Secretary and produces  SV Mag reports for the D.A.
Mick promotes the NVS at shows, gala’s etc with a NVS /Gardening themed roadshow and at talks with local gardening clubs.

Mick Joined the Northern Branch committee 2015 and became the Minute Secretary 2016 and also became an NVS qualified judge in 2016. Mick has also taken on the role of updating the Northern Branch & D.A. NVS website information as well as this new temporary role of Trustee Rep for the Northern Branch.

Betty Garbutt

Midlands Branch Trustee Rep

After university studying Botany and Zoology,  Betty did farm management before returning home to run a mixed arable and livestock farm. Betty has always grown vegetables for the kitchen, and had her first "plot" when she was about 4 years old.

 Over the years she has shown all types of livestock, competed in equestrian events and judged at most county shows here in the UK and also in Australia . Betty says that unfortunately, now her gardening is mostly confined to design and direction, with her husband David doing most of the hard work!!

Owain  Roberts

Welsh Branch Trustee Rep 

Owain joined the NVS in 2010.  He is currently the Treasurer of the Welsh Branch having served as a Committee Member for several years. Owain grows many varieties of vegetables for exhibition winning numerous red cards at branch and national level over the years. Owain is also an NVS Judge and joined the board of Trustees in 2022.

Andrew Jones 

Welsh Branch Trustee Rep 

Andrew has been a member of the NVS since the mid 1990s and is a long standing  member of the Welsh Branch Committee. He  supports a variety of  Branch activities including helping set up the judges exam, growing veg for displays ,and assisting at Welsh Branch events .   He grows a variety of veg and enjoys exhibiting and judging at both local, Branch  and National level. Easily spotted in his red cap ! 

Norman Dickinson

Southern Branch Trustee Rep and Southern Branch Chair

Norman joined the NVS in 2017  and became involved as Vice Chair of the Sussex District association as well as becoming the Southern Branch Chair in 2019.

Kelvin Mason

Southern Branch Trustee Rep 

Kelvin has been an NVS member since 1991.  He is a  professional horticulturist and has been our SV Magazine editor since 2014 sharing his knowledge. Kelvin is also an NVS judge.
