Owain Roberts on Growing Exhibition Potatoes

Join us for what promises to be a very informative presentation and discover how to grow quality exhibition potatoes to their best by Owain Roberts. 

Owain's talk will be a power point of photos of the method that he uses to grow potatoes from receiving the seed to preparation of the bed and planting. He will discuss the cultivars he grows before moving on to watering and storage before the shows. Owain will finish the talk with his views on judging.

Mark Perry - Growing Exhibition Stump Carrots

Mark is one of the top growers of Stump Carrots within the NVS and will give an illustrated talk and share his methods for growing for exhibition with success. Seeds are usually sown in March so it’s perfect timing for anyone wishing to try a different approach for the next season.

Jim Pearson - Broad Beans

Jim is one of the top growers of Broad beans within the NVS and will give an illustrated talk and share his methods for growing for exhibition with success. 

2025 is the turn of the Scottish Branch, hosting the National Championships at Ayr Racecourse and they have decided that the Chair's Challenge will be six pods of broad beans.

Jim believes that with a bit of hard work and dedication any grower is capable of growing Broad Beans to National Standards and unlike some other show vegetables, you don’t need grow lights, heated greenhouses or polytunnels to have a go. The most important aspect to growing top class beans is getting the garden prepared correctly

Simon Smith - Growing Tomatoes and Cucumbers

Discover how to grow tomatoes and cucumbers to their best by Simon Smith.

Simon has entered both tomatoes and cucumbers at pretty much every show he has ever contested since he started exhibiting in 1994 and has enjoyed a lot of success with them. Tomatoes and Cucumbers are two classes that are always well contested at most shows, local or national, and two crops Simon believes absolutely anyone can grow to a very high standard and even win tickets at The NVS national championships, as long as you are prepared to put in time and effort and pay attention to detail.
